National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day: Adopting or Fostering a Shelter Pet During Self-Isolation
Many of our All Star family members, clients, providers, and people in our community are the proud pet owners of shelter/rescue pets. In honor of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day and during a time when many of us are working from or staying at home, we hope you will find the following information helpful if you are thinking about adopting or fostering a shelter pet.
In addition to minimizing feelings of loneliness and isolation, caring for an animal in need of love and a good home is incredibly rewarding, can reduce stress, and is good for your heart. Additionally, if you have been considering adoption, fostering – or taking in a cat or dog (or bird, rabbit, etc.) to nurture until they can be placed in a permanent home – it could help you gauge whether a “forever” pet is something you can manage once you return to the workplace.
THREE BENEFITS OF ADOPTING A SHELTER PET
- When you adopt a dog from a shelter, you help to lower demand for puppies from puppy mills, where dogs are kept in terrible conditions.
- Many shelter pets are already vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered, which can save you time and money on appointments with the veterinarian.
- You save two lives for the price of one! In addition to saving the life of the animal you adopt, you also free up a spot in the shelter for another animal who needs it.
THREE BENEFITS OF FOSTERING A SHELTER PET
- Animals who might be struggling at a shelter will have the opportunity to shine in their foster home, revealing their true personality and increasing their chances of attracting an adopter.
- If you are considering adoption down the road, fostering now gives you the chance test out different breeds and ages of animals, to see what best matches your lifestyle.
- “Fostering saves an animal’s life and enriches the foster family’s life as well,” says Nichole Dandrea, a spokesperson for Best Friends Animal Society, a national nonprofit pet rescue and advocacy organization that is leading the charge in eliminating dog and cat euthanasia.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting an animal, search here for Best Friends’ network partners near you, or contact local shelters and rescue pet programs in your area.
National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day is observed each year on April 30 to raise awareness for the millions of animals in shelters across the country awaiting their forever homes.

Ensuring Your Health and Well-Being as You Care for COVID-19 Patients

Whether you are on the front lines of this pandemic – perhaps taking on extra shifts at your facility or working locum tenens – or at home, maybe on quarantine or caring for your children, please know that you are in our thoughts. This is an especially challenging time for providers, and we are eternally grateful for all you do to bring quality healthcare to your patients.
It’s National Public Health Week, established to bring communities across the United States together to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues important to improving it. While it is important to acknowledge its importance, now more than ever, it is even more vital that you and your colleagues take extra measures to ensure your physical health as well as your mental well-being.
While you are undoubtedly aware that there are excellent resources available to help physicians, advanced practitioners, and other clinicians care for themselves during times of stress and crisis, some providers may, unwittingly, keep their focus solely on the health and well-being of others. Here, we are pleased to share links to resources from the American Medical Association (AMA) and the National Academy of Medicine. We hope you find them beneficial.

All Star is One of South Florida's 2020 Best Places to Work

All Star Healthcare Solutions (formerly All Star Recruiting) was honored yesterday at the South Florida Business Journal’s 2020 Best Places to Work Awards Luncheon at the Signature Grand in Davie, Florida. The company, which is one of the fastest-growing healthcare staffing firms in the United States, is both humbled and thrilled to announce it ranked fourth in the large company category.
"As a Best Place to Work, All Star attracts genuine, dedicated people whose ideals and commitment to doing the right thing align with our core values and goals," said Keith Shattuck, the company’s CEO. “Our people care about positively impacting others and delivering our signature "Red Carpet" Service
to our providers, patients, clients, community, and each other. This amazing distinction is a testament to them because they make All Star the best place to be."
All Star is recurrently celebrated for its exceptional workplace environment and caring, high-performance culture.
As with the other organizations feted at the Best Places to Work Awards Luncheon, the company was chosen as a finalist based on the results of a confidential online survey administered to employees by Quantum Workplace. The top 45 firms, based on employees’ feedback, were divided into one of three categories: small company (10 to 49 employees), medium company (50 to 99 employees), and large company (100 employees or more).
All Star’s Thanksgiving Feast Focuses on Family

All Star Recruiting (now All Star Healthcare Solutions) celebrated Thanksgiving with a family-style feast, inviting its people—and their parents—to a midday holiday meal, served up with gratitude by company leaders.
“Gratitude is our attitude,” says CEO Keith Shattuck. “It is the first of our Core Values and the backbone of what we’re all about. We’re so grateful for our All Star family. It was an enormous pleasure to enjoy a pre-holiday celebration with them and meet so many of their parents. Their moms and dads were gracious, happy to be here, and just plain awesome, which are qualities we see in our people every day.”
A number of employees’ parents joined the festivities, which were held in the office and included oven-roasted turkey and baked ham with all the fixings, vegan options, and assorted holiday pies. Family-style seating set up throughout the office provided a friendly atmosphere conducive to conversation and mingling.
Nicole Ventriglia says her parents flew in from New York specifically for the occasion! “My mom and dad were blown away,” says the marketing coordinator, “and I was thrilled to have them here. I absolutely loved being able to mix together my two families for the day.”
“Our company is comprised of dedicated, hardworking people who truly care about each other and the impact they have on those we serve,” Shattuck continues. “We are grateful for each and every one of them.”
