Ideas for Celebrating National Doctors’ Day at Your Facility

Doctor holding heart in her hands

This Saturday is National Doctors’ Day! Hospitals, health systems, clinics, and medical practices across the country will be honoring their permanent physicians and locum tenens doctors in a variety of ways, from offering them specialty services, such as onsite mini massages, to hosting formal ceremonies.

If you are looking for a few things to flesh out your festivities, read on. We have taken the short turnaround time into consideration as well as variance in availability of resources to help you quickly put any of the following plans into play.

  • Present your physicians with National Doctors’ Day Certificates of Appreciation. Microsoft Word offers free certificate templates that can easily be customized and printed for the occasion. If time and your budget permit, you could purchase printable parchment certificate paper from a local office store. Certificates could be delivered to your doctors in a personalized folder or framed.
  • Treat your doctors to breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Depending on the number of honorees/attendees, a catered affair could be an excellent way to go. Alternatively, you could bring in desserts, cheese and crackers, fruit-and-vegetable trays, and other tasty fare for a casual gathering. Support staff and other members of your team will likely want to add to the celebration by bringing in their homemade specialties and other treats, too.
  • Give your physicians red carnations. The symbolic flower of National Doctors’ Day will be particularly meaningful to your physicians. It represents love, charity, sacrifice, bravery, and courage. You can present them as boutonnieres/corsages or in individual vases.
  • Make it easy for patients to share their well wishes, too. Keep blank or “thank you” notecards on hand in locations where patients can easily spot them—such as reception areas, waiting rooms, and nurses’ stations—in a container with clearly marked signage that states, “Wish Your Doctor a Happy Doctors’ Day!” Ask a creative colleague to fashion a cardboard or basket “mailbox,” so patients know where to place their notes of appreciation.

Of course, as in most instances, few things can compare with a genuine expression of gratitude. Individually thanking your physicians for their lifesaving work, special accomplishments, and valuable contributions to patients’ lives and the well-being of your community will truly underscore your appreciation.

All Star’s client-side consultants are dedicated to helping you find the best physicians and advanced practitioners for your locum tenens and/or permanent staffing needs.
